Candle Care
There are a few standard tips that will help you get the most out of your candle and allow it to burn clean and even.
On the first burn make sure to let the candle reach a full melt pool around the container. The length of time varies for each size container. Tea Lights do not apply since they are very small and can reach a melt pool within 20 min or so. For my containers like the 8 oz tins and the 10.5 oz, etc it will take about 3-4 hours to reach a full melt pool. Blowing the candle out too early will cause tunneling and there will be wax left over on the sides of the container. If this happens and you want to salvage the candle- when the candle is hardened back up, take a spoon and dig at the wax left over on the container, I use a very soft wax and it would be very easy to do this step.
Always always always remove the burnt (black part) excess wick before re-lighting. I like to use candle wick trimmers. The wick should always be about 1/4 inch for cotton wicks, wood wicks should be a little shorter. If the flame is high and sooting it usually means the wick wasn't cut short enough or you need to move the candle away from any drafts.
Always maintain safety when burning your candles. It's common sense. Keep away from children, keep away from anything that can catch on fire.
